Prevention - At School

Steps to keep your Child sick-free from Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease:

  1. Avoid sharing with others.
  2. Utensils, food, drinks or items such as towels and toothbrush are personal and items that can easily transmit illness when shared. Thus, to avoid your child from catching sicknesses from others teach them to avoid sharing their things with others.

  3. Do know your child's health condition.
  4. Check for fevers, cough, sore throat, blisters or ulcers on your child. These could be symptoms of the disease and thus it is better to take early prevention. Take your child's temperature and make sure they are not sick before sending him/her off to school.

  5. Refrain sending your child to school if they are unwell.
  6. To avoid spreading illnesses to other children, do not send your child to school if they have the 4 symptoms of Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease.
    1. Fever (38°C - 39°C)
    2. Sore Throat
    3. Blisters or/and ulcers formed on the body
    4. Skin Rash
    5. Poor appetite
    6. Tiredness

    This disease spreads easily through coughing and sneezing.

    Tip: If your child's body has blisters forming, do contact your child's kindergarten or school right away to inform them about the disease so they can moniter other children and take compulsory precautions.
    (The blisters and skinrash will only form when the virus has been contacted after several days.)
